PBF Shetland Division Description

Shetland — Age 6 and under

This is where it all begins! The Shetland Division is a purely instructional, noncompetitive division. Games use a combination of coach pitching and T-Ball. Games and practices use reduced impact baseballs to increase player confidence and lessen chance of injury. No scoring or stats are kept.

Expected Skill Level at Beginning of Season - No previous experience expected.

Team Commitment

  1. Practice - One 2 hour practice per week.
  2. Games — One 3 to 4 inning game per week consisting of a 20 —30 minute pre-game warm-up and approximately one and a half hours of game time.

Playing Time and Position Rotation - All players bat and rotate through field positions for the entire game (unless a coach has safety concerns with a player fielding a certain position such as 1 st base or pitcher’s assistant).

Skill Building Goals - Players will learn the basic rules and elementary skills of baseball, including proper batting stance and fielding and throwing mechanics, with an emphasis on hitting a pitched ball.
